Chapter 10 : Nabuwat and Risalat (The Prophetic Mission)

Institution of Nabuwat and Risalat’

‘Nabuwat and Risalat’ refers to Allah’s (SWT) Divine Institution, to provide proper guidance to humanity. It included all prophets and messengers from Adam () to Muhammad (ﷺ) who were the specially chosen people of Allah (SWT) bestowed with the highest spirituality, morality, virtues, and divine knowledge and wisdom. Allah (SWT) sent them all as Guides to mankind for guiding them toward Allah’s Deen (path). They were assigned the tasks of conveying Allah’s messages, teaching people from His Scripture revealed to them, purifying human souls, informing people about immense rewards for good deeds, and forewarning them of the severe punishment of Hell for committing sins. All the prophets and messengers of Allah (SWT) called their people toward the path of Allah so that they can attain peace and salvation both in this world and the hereafter. They asked no remuneration for their service, as their rewards rested with their Lord. Allah (SWT) says:

“Such (Sending Apostles) is the Bounty of Allah, which He bestows on whom He will: and Allah is the Lord of the highest bounty.” (62:4)

The Purpose of ‘Nabuwat and Risalat’

“Indeed, We have sent Our messengers with clear proofs, and We sent down with them the Scriptures and the Balance (Standard of Justice), that humanity may uphold justice….” (57:25)

Humans are heedless, forgetful, and prone to errors because of humanly weaknesses and the evil inspirations of Satan. So, they need constant guidance to live a righteous life. The system of ‘Nabuwat and Risalat’ was introduced for the proper guidance of humanity. In all ages, Allah (SWT) sent His Prophets and Messengers to their nations with the Prophetic Mission to preach His Deen for the welfare of mankind in this life and afterlife. The purpose of their mission is described below:

  • To provide divine guidance of Allah (SWT) to humanity.
  • To guide their nations to the right path of Allah (SWT) by delivering His messages to them.
  • To preach the fundamental message of ‘Tawheed’ (Oneness of Allah), i.e., worshipping none but only Allah (SWT).
  • To teach the people how to develop their morality, spirituality and virtues, how to overcome the evil impulse and impurities of their hearts, and how to attain Allah’s pleasure for final success in the hereafter.
  • To warn people against the consequences of wrongdoings, taught them the Scripture, and gave them glad tidings of eternal peace and tranquility in the hereafter.
  • To strive against all types of falsehood, superstitions, idolatry, immoralities, transgressions and sinful activities.
  • To remind their people about the Hereafter, the Day of Qiyamah, the Day of Judgement, and the final destination of humanity to Paradise or Hell.

The prophetic mission of Messenger and Prophets was not an easygoing or unhindered task, but fraught with full of struggles. They faced a lot of resistance, oppression and aggression, and some of them even lost their lives at the hands of their opponents. They preached nothing of their own but the instructions of Allah (SWT). They persevered  and endured in their prophetic mission. According to one hadith, it was stated that ‘Among men the prophets suffer most.’

Here are verses on this topic as mentioned above:

“In their stories (of the earlier Prophets and Messengers) is a lesson for those who possess intelligence. This is not a fabricated tale, but a confirmation of that (the Scriptures) revealed before it, and a detailed explanation of all things, and guidance, and mercy for people who believe.” (12:111)

“But then his Lord recalled him (Adam ), and pardoned him, and guided him. He said, ‘Go down from it (heaven), altogether; some of you enemies of some others. But whenever guidance comes to you from Me, whoever follows My guidance, will not go astray, nor suffer.” (20:122 – 123)

“O Children of Adam! (You were told in the beginning) When messengers from among you come to you, narrating you My revelations – whoever practices piety and reforms (mend their conducts accordingly) – upon them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.” (7:35)

“Indeed, We have sent Our messengers with clear proofs, and We sent down with them the Scriptures and the Balance (Standard of Justice), that humanity may uphold justice. And We sent down iron, in which there is violent force, and benefits for humanity. That Allah may know who supports Him and His messengers invisibly. Allah is Strong and Powerful.” (57:25)

“Messengers delivering good news, and bringing warnings (were sent); so that people may have no excuse against Allah after the coming of the messengers. Allah is Powerful and Wise.” (4:165)

“We sent the messengers only as bearers of good news and as warners. Those who believe and reform have nothing to fear, nor shall they grieve.” (6:48)

“We never sent any messenger except with the language of his people, to make things clear for them. Allah leads astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. He is the Mighty, the Wise.” (14:4)

“Behold! Allah took the covenant of the prophets, saying: ‘I give you a Book and Wisdom; and then when comes to you an Apostle, confirming what is with you; you do believe in him and render him help.’ Allah said: ‘Do you agree, and take this my Covenant as binding on you?’ They said: ‘We agree.’ He said: ‘Then bear witness, and I am with you among the witnesses’.” (3:81)

“…….The responsibility of the messengers is clear propagation. Indeed, We have sent a messenger to every nation (with the message that): ‘Worship Allah, and shun the Devil.’ Allah guided some of them, while for others misguidance became inevitable. So, travel through the earth, and see what the fate of the deniers was.” (16:35 – 36)

“Never did We destroy a population, but had its warners (prophets and messengers) – By way of reminder; and We never are unjust.” (26:208 – 209)

Chain of Prophets and Messengers of Allah (SWT)

Since the creation of human beings, Allah (SWT) sent a series of Prophets and Messengers to each nation to establish His Deen on the earth. Adam () was the first amongst them while Muhammad (ﷺ) was the last and final one. In every age and in every community, Allah (SWT) sent prophets and messengers according to the need of the time and the circumstances.  They all called their people towards Deen, the righteous path of Allah (SWT). The continuity of the Prophetic Mission on the earth was completed with the last and final Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ).

Verses on Messengers & Prophets of Allah (SWT) are cited below:

“Every community has a messenger. When their messenger has come, Judgement will be passed between them with fairness, and they will not be wronged.” (10:47)

“We have inspired you, as We had inspired Noah and the prophets after him. And We inspired Ibrahim, and Isma’il, and Ishaq, and Yaqoob, and the tribes, and Isa, and Ayyub, and Yunus, and Haroon, and Sulaimaan. And We gave Dawood the Zaboor.” (4:163)

“All the Prophets that We sent before you were men from the people of the metropolises, to whom We sent revelations. Have they not roamed the earth and seen the consequences for those before them? The Home of the Hereafter is better for those who are righteous. Do you not understand? Until, when the messengers have despaired and thought that their estimation was almost erred, (at that very time) Our help came to them. We save whomever We will, and Our severity is not averted from the guilty people.” (12:109 – 110)

“We sent Nooh and Ibrahim, and established in their lineage Prophethood and the Scripture. Some of them are guided, but many of them are sinners. Then We sent in their wake Our messengers, and followed up with Isa (Jesus) son of Maryam, and We gave him the Gospel, and instilled in the hearts of those who followed him compassion and mercy. But as for the monasticism which We did not ordain it for them, but they invented it only to seek Allah’s approval. But they did not observe it with its due observance. So, We gave their reward to those of them who believed, but many of them are sinful.” (57:26 – 27)

“Their messengers said, ‘Do you have any doubt about Allah, Creator of the heavens and the earth? He calls you to forgive your sins, and grant you respite until a stated term.’ They said, ‘You are only humans like us; you want to turn us away from what our ancestors worshiped; so, bring us a clear proof.’ Their Messengers said to them, “We are only humans like you, but Allah favors whomever He wills from among His servants. We cannot possibly show you any proof, except by leave of Allah. In Allah let the faithful put their trust. And why should we not trust in Allah, when He has guided us to our paths? We will persevere in the face of your persecution. And upon Allah, the reliant should rely.’ Those who disbelieved said to their Messengers, ‘We will expel you from our land, unless you return to our religion.’ And their Lord sent revelation to them: ‘We will destroy the wrongdoers’.” (14:10 – 13)

(We ask) Your forgiveness – (O) our Lord, and to You is our return.” (2:285)

To those who believe in Allah and His Apostles and make no distinction between any of the Apostles, we shall soon give their (due) rewards: for Allah is Oft- forgiving, Most Merciful.” (4:150 – 152)

“Those who believe, and do not obscure their faith with wrongdoing – they will have security, and they are guided. That was Our argument which We gave to Ibrahim against his people. We elevate by degrees whomever We will. Your Lord is Wise and Informed. And We gave him Ishaq and Yaqoob—each of them We guided. And We guided Nooh previously; and from his descendants Dawood, and Sulaimaan, and Ayyub, and Yusuf, and Musa, and Hraoon. Thus, We reward the righteous. And Zakariya, and Yahya, and Isa, and Ilyas—every one of them was of the upright. And Isma’il, and Ilyasa, and Yunus, and Loot – We favored each one of them over all other people. And also, some of their ancestors, and their descendants, and their siblings – We chose them, and guided them to a straight path. Such is Allah’s guidance. He guides with it whomever He wills of His servants. Had they adopted ‘Shirk’ (partners with Allah), their deeds would have gone in vain. They are those to whom We gave the Book, and wisdom, and prophethood…….” (6:82 – 89)

“O you Apostles! Eat (all) things good and pure, and work righteousness: for I am well-aware with (all) that you do. Peace, Blessings & Favor upon Prophets & Messengers

“And peace be upon the Messengers.” (37:181)

Allah’s (SWT) peace and blessings be upon all Prophets and Messengers whom He chose to preach His Deen among mankind. They were the best people in humanity as they possessed the best qualities, behaviors, and conduct, and excellent moral character. Allah (SWT) favored them in many respects and placed their dignity, honor and status above all humans. Allah and His angels offer blessings and peace on them. To have faith and respect on all Prophets and Messengers is obligatory for every Muslim. All the believers have been instructed to offer Darood and Salam upon them and make no distinction among any of His Apostles. The verses related to the above topic are given below:

Nooh (): The Great Deluge and His Ark

Nooh () was one of the greatest Prophets of Allah (SWT). He was sent to his community, people who were Idolaters and engaged in committing great sins. He warned his people about severe punishment for their wrongdoings, asked them to repent for their sins, assured them of Allah’s mercy and forgiveness, and gave them the glad tidings of Allah’s favors and bounties upon them – if they turn towards Allah’s path. Though he preached the Messages of Allah (SWT) over a period of 950 years to reform his people, a few of them paid heed to his preaching. All his efforts brought very little success as most of the people rejected his call. Rather, they said: “O Nooh! you have disputed with us, and prolonged the dispute with us: now bring upon us what you threatened us with, if you speak the truth!?” (11:32). Then Almighty Allah caused a great Deluge to punish those evil mongers drowning them in the deluge.

The Qur’anic verses on this topic are cited below:

“Before them the People of Nooh rejected (their prophet): they belied Our servant, and said, ‘Here is one possessed (crazed)’, and he was rebuffed. Then he called on his Lord: ‘I am one overwhelmed: so, You then help (me)!’ So, We opened the floodgates of heaven, with water pouring forth. He said, ‘If you ridicule us, we will ridicule you, just as you ridicule. You will surely know upon whom will come a torment that will abase him, and upon whom will fall a lasting torment.’ Until, when Our command came, and the volcano erupted, We said, ‘Board into it a pair of every kind, and your family—except those against whom the sentence has already been passed—and those who have believed.’ But those who believed with him were only a few. And it was said, ‘O earth, swallow your waters,’ and ‘O heaven, clear up.’ And the waters receded, and the event was concluded, and it settled on Judi, and it was proclaimed: ‘Away with the wrongdoing people’.” (11:42 – 44)

Prophet Ibrahim (): He Sacrificed his son Ismail ()

When Prophet Ibrahim () received a message from Allah (SWT) in a dream instructing him to sacrifice his beloved son Ismail () in His name, he informed his little boy of the divine command and asked for his opinion. Both father and son agreed to submit to the will of Allah (SWT) and prepared to fulfill it with utmost sincerity. Ibrahim () laid his son on the ground, covered own eyes with a piece of cloth, and took a knife to carry out the sacrifice. Allah (SWT) recognized their pure intention and called out: “O Ibrahim! You have obeyed my command and will be rewarded!” Instantly, Allah (SWT) sent a sacrificial animal to the location. Upon opening his eyes, Ibrahim () found his son alive and a slaughtered sheep in place of him. He expressed gratitude to Allah (SWT) for His benevolence. This unique incident of sacrifice has been described in the following verse:

“(Ibrahim  prayed) My Lord, give me one of the righteous (son).’ So, We gave him good news about a gentle boy. Then, when he was old enough to accompany him, he said, “O My son, I see in a dream that I am sacrificing you; see what you think.” He said, “O my Father, do as you are commanded; you will find me, Allah willing, one of the forbearing.’ Then, when they had submitted, he put his forehead down. We called out to him, ‘O Ibrahim! You have fulfilled the vision.’ Thus, We reward the doers of good. This was certainly an evident test. And We redeemed him with a great sacrificial animal. And We left it with him as an example for later generations. Peace be upon Ibrahim. Thus, We reward the doers of good. He was one of Our believing servants.” (37:100 – 111)

Story of Yusuf () & His Explanations of Dreams

Allah (SWT) gave Yusuf () wisdom and knowledge of explaining dreams and nominated him as His prophet. Yusuf () gave a true interpretation of an obscure dream of Egypt’s King, which forecast a prosperous yield of crops for seven consecutive years and then a continuous drought for the next seven years. He advised the King on how to make storage the harvest and make proper distribution of the foodstuffs to evade the food shortage during the famine. The wise explanation of this dream helped him to be the king’s favorite one. After being impressed by his knowledge, morality, and extraordinary qualities, the King appointed him as Minister of the Treasury. Earlier he gave explanations of the dreams of his two prison mates, which became true. Yusuf () also gave explanations of his own dream of boyhood, which he expressed to his father Yaqoob () before. This dream was fulfilled afterward when, at his invitation, Yaqoob () came to his court in Egypt along with his ten sons and all of them bowed down before him as a sign of honor. The story of his life has been described in ‘Surah Yusuf’ of the Holy Qur’an. Yusuf () was given Mu’jeza (divine power) to interpret dreams.

The verses relating to this topic are quoted below:

“Now with him, two young men came into the prison. Said one of them: ‘I see myself (in a dream) pressing wine.’ the other one said: ‘I see myself (in a dream) carrying bread on my head, and birds are eating, thereof.’ (Both said) ‘Tell us – the interpretations thereof: for we see you are one the righteous’.” (12:36)

“He (Yusuf ) said: ‘Before any food comes (in due course) to feed either of you, I will surely reveal to you the interpretations of this before it befalls you: that is part of the (knowledge) which my Lord has taught me. I have (I assure you) abandoned the ways of a people that believe not in Allah and that (even) deny the Hereafter.” (12:37)

“O my two companions of the prison! As to one of you, he will pour out the wine for his lord to drink: as for the other, he will be crucified, and the birds will eat from off his head. (so) has been decreed that matter which you two enquired me’.” (12:41)

Explain to us (the dream) of seven fat cows are eaten by seven lean ones and of seven green sheaves and (seven) others dried that I may return to the people and that they may understand.’ (Yusuf ) said: ‘You will produce crops for seven consecutive years. Then after that will come seven difficult years, when will consume what you have stored, except for the little that you have preserved. Then will come after that (period) a year in which the people will have abundant water, and in which they will press (wine and oil)’.” (12:43 – 49)

Yunus (): His Miraculous Deliverance

Allah (SWT) sent prophet Yunus () to preach His messages to the people of Nineveh, the capital of Assyria. The people of this city were corrupted and arrogant. Yunus () advised them to give up sins and to turn to the path of Allah (SWT). He tried his best to reform that society, but the people rejected him. Being frustrated and knowing Allah’s punishment that was imminent upon them, he decided to depart the city without Allah’s leave. Having left the city behind, Yunus () boarded a ship. In the sea, a storm grew up, and the sailors were frightened. The superstitious sailors of the boat thought that the god of the sea might be displeased with them, so they drew a lottery to find out the sinning one among them. The lotto was drawn three times, and every time it showed the name of Yunus (). This convinced the sailors to throw him into the sea for protecting their ship as well as their lives from the storm. In the sea, a big fish, which might be a whale, swallowed him. In the belly of that fish, he fell in great distress. He called upon his Lord Allah (SWT) with repentance for deliverance from the torment that afflicted him. And his prayer was heard, and he was relieved from the belly of the fish. The following verses of this incident have been cited below:

“And Yunus was certainly one of the messengers. When he fled to the laden boat. Lottery was drawn and he lost. Then the fish swallowed him, and he was to blame. Had he not been one of those who praised. He would have stayed in its belly until the Day they are raised. Then We threw him into the wilderness, and he was sick. And We made a gourd tree grow over him. Then We sent him to a community of a hundred thousand people, or more. And they believed, so We gave them enjoyment for a while.” (37:139 – 148)

“And Yunus when he stormed out in fury, thinking We had no power over him. But then He cried out in the darkness, ‘There is no god but You! Glory to You! I was one of the wrongdoers!’ So, We answered him, and saved him from the affliction. Thus, We save the faithful.” (21:87 – 88)

“Why not there was a single township (among those We warned), which believed, – so its faith should have profited it, – except the people of Yunus? When they believed, We removed from them the penalty of ignominy in the life of the present, and permitted them to enjoy (their life) for a while.” (10:98)

“So, wait patiently for the decision of your Lord, and do not be like the Fellow of the Fish (Yunus) who cried out in despair. Were it not for his Lord’s favor that reached him, he would have been thrown into the wilderness, fully despised. But his Lord chose him and made him one of the righteous.” (68:48 – 50)

Sulaimaan (): His Knowledge, Power and Empire

After the death of Dawood (), his son Sulaimaan () inherited his position as Prophetic King. The Qur’an says: “And We granted Dawood, – Sulaimaan, an excellent servant. He was penitent.” (38:30). He was given wisdom and knowledge, and an excellent intellect to deliver accurate verdict. Allah (SWT) says: “To Sulaimaan We inspired the (right) understanding of the matter: to both (Dawood and Sulaimaan) We gave Judgement and Knowledge…….” (38:79). Sulaimaan () had the unique power to understand the languages of other creatures like birds, ants, etc. Allah (SWT) bestowed upon him many favors throughout his life. He prayed to his Lord Allah: “My Lord, forgive me, and grant me a kingdom never to be attained by anyone after me. You are the Giver.” (38:35). So, Allah (SWT) granted him power to subjugate the Jinn, wind and birds and so that he might use their skills and strength for his purpose. He could travel by air a long distance, as the wind at his command would carry him where he wished to go. Thus, Allah (SWT) endowed him with knowledge, power, and a great empire.

Mu’jeza (Divine Miracles) of Prophets and Messengers

“….. No messenger can bring a miracle except by leave of Allah……” (40:78)

In Islamic terminology Mu’jeza means the divine miracles of Messengers and Prophets. Allah (SWT) gave them Mu’jeza as evidence of their Prophethood. The Mu’jeza was the signs of Allah (SWT) empowering His prophets and messengers over their people. Believing in Mu’jeza is one of the elements of Islamic Faith. The verses relating to Mu’jeza of Messengers and Prophets are quoted below:

“And to Samood tribe, was sent their brother Saleh. He said, ‘O my people! Worship Allah; you have no god other than Him. Clarification has come to you from your Lord. This she-camel of Allah is a sign for you. So, leave her to graze on Allah’s earth, and do her no harm, lest a painful penalty seizes you.” (7:73)

“They said, ‘Burn him (Ibrahim ) and support your gods, if you are going to act.’ We said, ‘O fire, be cool down and safe upon Ibrahim.’ They planned to harm him, but We made them the worst losers.” (21:68 – 70)

“He (Fer’awn) said (to Musa ), ‘If you brought a miracle, then present it, if you are truthful.’ So, he threw his staff, and it was an apparent serpent. And He pulled out his hand, and it was shining-white to the onlookers. The notables among Pharaoh’s people said, ‘This is really a skillful magician’.” (7:106 – 109)

“And they (forces of Fer’awn) chased them at sunrise. When the two groups sighted each other, the followers of Musa said, ‘We are being overtaken.’ He said, ‘No; my Lord is with me, He will guide me.’ We inspired Musa: ‘Strike the sea with your staff.’ Whereupon it parted, and each part was like a huge hill. And there We brought the others (Fer’awn and his army) closer. And We saved Musa and those with him, all together. Then We drowned the others. In that there is a sign, but most of them are not believers.” (26:60 – 67)

“And as a messenger to the Children of Israel: “I have come to you with a sign from your Lord. I make for you out of clay the shape of a bird; then I breathe into it, and it becomes a bird by Allah’s leave. And I heal the blind and the leprous, and I revive the dead, by Allah’s leave. And I inform you concerning what you eat, and what you store in your homes. In that is a sign for you, if you are believers.” (3:49)

Enmity & Mockery of Disbelievers with Prophets & Messengers

Almost all Prophets and Messengers of Allah (SWT) faced tremendous opposition from the disbelievers of their community. They embarrassed their prophets with mockery and spiteful remarks and humiliated them by calling them liars, mad, sorcerers, and so on. They oppressed them physically and mentally and killed many of them. All these could not stop them from their mission, rather they showed utter patience and perseverance in preaching the Deen of Allah (SWT).

Here are the verses relating to the above topic:

“Likewise, We have assigned for every prophet an enemy – human and jinn devils……” (6:112)

“Likewise, to every prophet We assign enemies from among the wicked. But your Lord suffices as a Guide and Savior.” (25:31)

“We sent others (prophets) before you, to the past communities. But no messenger came to them, but they ridiculed him.” (15:10 – 11)

“How many a prophet did We send to the ancients? No messenger came to them, but they ridiculed him.” (43:6 – 7)

“So, proclaim openly what you are commanded, and turn away from the polytheists. We are enough for you against the mockers.” (15:94 – 95)

“Other messengers before you were rejected too, but they endured rejection and persecution until Our help came to them. There can be no change to Allah’s words. Information of the Messengers has already reached you.” (6:34)

“Repel evil by what is better. We are aware of what they describe (about you). (23:96)

“If you find their rejection hard to bear, then if you can, seek a tunnel into the earth, or a stairway into heaven, and bring them a sign. Had Allah willed, He could have gathered them to guidance. So do not be ignorant.” (6:35)

“Messengers before you were also ridiculed, but those who jeered were surrounded by what they had ridiculed.” (21:41)

“And so be patient. Your patience is solely from Allah. And do not grieve over them, and do not be stressed by their plots. Allah is with those who are righteous and those who are virtuous.” (16:127 – 128)

“Messengers before you were derided, but those who mocked them became besieged by what they ridiculed. Say, Travel the earth and observe the final fate of the deniers.” (6:10 – 11)

“We send the messengers only as deliverers of good news and warners. Those who disbelieve argue with false argument, in order to defeat the truth thereby. They take My Verses, and the warnings, for a joke.” (18:56)

“That is their requital – the Hell, on account of their disbelief, and for taking My revelations and My Messengers farcically. (18:106)

“The evils of their deeds what they earned will become apparent to them, and they will be surrounded by what they used to ridicule.” (39:48)

“And when they see you, they take you for nothing but mockery: ‘Is this the one Allah sent as a messenger? He nearly led us away from our gods, had we not patiently adhered to them.’ But they will know, when they witness the torment, who is more strayed from the (right) path. Have you seen him who chose his desire as his god? Would you be a guardian over him? Or do you assume that most of them hear or understand? They are just like cattle, but even more errant in their way.” (25:41 – 44)

“And they say, ‘Why was an angel not sent down to him.’ Had We sent down an angel, the matter would have been settled, and they would not have been reprieved. Had We made him an angel, We would have made him a (shape of) man (because angel is invisible), and confused them when they are already confused.” (6:8 – 9)

“Have they not travelled the earth and seen how those before them ended up? They were more powerful than them, and they cultivated the land and developed it more than they developed it, and their Messengers came to them with clear signs. Allah would never wrong them, but they used to wrong themselves. Then, evil was the end of those who committed evil. That is because they rejected Allah’s revelations, and used to ridicule them.”         (30:9 – 10)

“Those who criticize the believers who give charity voluntarily, and ridicule those who find nothing to give except their own efforts – Allah ridicules them. They will have a painful punishment.” (9:79)

“Beautified is the life of this world for those who disbelieve, and they ridicule those who believe. But the righteous will be above them on the Day of Resurrection. Allah provides to whomever He wills without measure.” (2:212)

“They found no excuse in them but only they believed in Allah the Almighty, the Praiseworthy. To Whom belongs the sovereignty of the heavens and the earth. Allah is witness over everything. Those who tempt the believers, men and women, then do not repent; for them is the punishment of Hell; for them is the punishment of Burning.” (85:8 – 10)

“Those who harm believing men and believing women for acts they did not commit, bear the burden of perjury and a flagrant sin.” (33:58)

“That is because you took Allah’s revelations for a joke, and the worldly life lured you. So today they will not be brought out of it (Hell), and they will not be asked to repent.” (45:35)

“But you wonder, and they ridicule. And when reminded, they pay no attention. And when they see a sign, they start mocking. And they say, this is nothing but plain magic’.” (37:12 – 15)

“They were arrogant in the earth and they devised Evil plots, but the plotting of Evils will surround only those who are the perpetrators….” (35:43)

“Those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed. And when they passed by them, they would wink at one another. And when they went back to their families, they would go back laughing. And if they saw them, they would say, ‘Certainly these people are lost.’ Yet they were not sent as guardians over them (believers). But on that Day, those who believed will laugh at the unbelievers – looking on from luxurious seats. Have the unbelievers been repaid for what they used to do?” (83:29 – 36)

“Whenever a newly-revealed Message from the Most Gracious (Allah) comes to them, they turn away therefrom. They have indeed rejected (the Message): so, they will know soon (enough) the truth of what they mocked at!” (26:5 – 6)
