ToggleUniversal Truths about Allah (SWT)
The fundamental truth about Allah (SWT) is that He is the Supreme Being, the Creator of the Universe, the One who encompasses greatness, the First and the Last, and the Ever-living. His majestic presence manifests in all of His creations according to His divine wisdom. He is the nourisher, sustainer, and master (Rab) of all His creations. He possesses ultimate power and authority, encompassing perfect wisdom, hearing, and sight. His boundless mercy and kindness are unmatched. He is the Master of the Day of Judgment, the most fair and just of all judges, delivering impeccable justice. In essence, He is unparalleled and beyond comparison.
The universal truths regarding Allah (SWT) are summarized as follows:
-
He is singular and incomparable, self-sufficient, not begetting nor begotten.
-
Every aspect of the heavens, the earth, and what lies in between belongs to Almighty Allah.
-
Under His sovereignty, the entire universe operates according to His will and laws, with Him regulating, managing, and governing all creation.
-
Harmony and tranquility prevail when creation abides by His will and laws, while deviation from them can lead to disorder and chaos.
-
He provides sustenance to all creatures from the heavens and the earth.
-
He brings forth life from death and vice versa.
-
He alone deserves all worship, praise, and adoration.
Surah Ikhlas of the Holy Qur’an, comprising four verses gives a basic introduction to Allah (SWT):
“Say (O Prophet): He is Allah, the One and Only; Allah, entirely Independent (free of all needs); He begets not, nor was He begotten; And there is none comparable to Him.” (112:1 – 4)
Besides, there are a large number of verses in the Holy Qur’an, in which Allah (SWT) has given His introduction as the Supreme Being as cited below:
“To Allah do belong the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and all that is therein, and it is He Who has power over all things.” (5:120)
“Allah – there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of (all) existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what is behind them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Throne extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most-High, the Most-Great.” (2:255)
“Verily, your Allah is one – Lord of the heavens and of the earth and all between them, and Lord of every point at the rising of the sun!” (37:4- 5)
“Say: ‘Who belongs to all that is in the heavens and on earth?’ Say: ‘To Allah.’ He has inscribed for Himself (the rule of) Mercy. That He will bring you all together on the Day of Judgement, there is no doubt on its occurrence. It is they who have lost their own souls, will not believe. To him belongs all that rest in the night and the day. For He is the one Who hears and knows all things.” (6:12 – 13)
“Everything in the heavens and the earth is glorifying Allah. He is the Almighty, the Wise. To Him belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth. He gives life and causes death, and He has power over all things. He is the First and the Last, and the Outer and the Inner, and He has knowledge of all things.” (57:1 – 3)
“He is Allah; the Creator, the Maker, the Designer. He belongs the Most Beautiful Names. Whatever is in the heavens and the earth glorifies Him. He is the Majestic, the Wise.” (59:24)
“Say, ‘Who provides for you from the sky and the earth? And who controls your hearing and sight? And who brings out the living from the dead, and the dead from the living? And who governs the Order?’ They will say, ‘Allah.’ Say, ‘Will you not fear?’ Such is Allah, your Lord—the True One. What is there, beyond the truth, except falsehood? How are you turned away? Thus, your Lord’s Word proved true against those who disobeyed, for they do not believe.” (10:31 – 33)
Tawheed: Unity of Allah (SWT)
The concept of “Tawheed” (the Unity of Allah) stands as the central theme of the Holy Qur’an. The declaration “لَا اِلهَ اِلَّا اللهُ” (“There is none to worship but Allah”) encapsulates this core belief, known as Tawheed. It unequivocally asserts that there is no deity deserving of worship except Allah (SWT). He is the One, the Singular, the Unique, and beyond comparison. Thus, the ultimate truth is the existence of a single God. Those who embrace Tawheed pledge their allegiance solely to Allah (SWT), follow His guidance, worship Him exclusively, seek His assistance alone, place unwavering trust in Him, and express gratitude solely to Him. The following Testimony and Declaration of Tawheed serve as the foundational requirement for embracing Islam:
“I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, who is One – having no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad ﷺ is His servant and His messenger.”
This profound declaration is known as the “Kalimatus Shahadah” or the “Words of Testimony.” It serves as the fundamental belief deeply rooted in the hearts of Muslims. This belief is evident in their daily prayers, which are dedicated solely to Allah (SWT). He alone is deserving of all worship, the ultimate source of protection and safety, and the sole path to salvation. اِیَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ وَاِیَّاكَ نَسْتَعِیْنُ – “It is You we worship, and upon You we call for help” (Quran 1:5) is a verse that validates the aforementioned statement.
The verses of the Holy Qur’an relating to Tawheed are cited below:
“Allah, there is no god but He! To Him belong the most Beautiful Names.” (20:8)
“Allah witnesses that there is none worthy of worship but He; (Also do witness are) His angels, and those endued with knowledge, standing firm in justice. There is none to be worshipped but He, the Exalted in Power, the Wise.” (3:18)
“Verily, this is the true statement: there is no Ilah (god) but Allah. And certainly, Allah is the Mighty, the Wise.” (3:62)
“Such is Allah, your Lord. There is no god except He, the Creator of all things; so, worship Him. He has full power over everything.” (6:102)
“Your Ilah (God) is one Ilah. There is no Ilah but He (Allah), the Benevolent, the Compassionate.” (2:163)
“He is Allah – there is none worthy of worship but He, the Knower of open and secrets. He is the Compassionate, the Merciful. He is Allah; besides Whom there is no god; the Sovereign, the Holy, the Peace-Giver, the Faith-Giver, the Overseer, the Almighty, the Omnipotent, the Overwhelming. Glory be to Allah, (He is pure from) what they associate with Him.” (59:22 – 23)
“O people! Worship your Lord who created you and those before you, that you may attain piety. He who made the earth a habitat for you, and the sky a roof, and sends water down from the sky, and brings out fruits thereby, as a sustenance for you. Therefore, do not assign rivals to Allah while you know.” (2:21 – 22)
“Say, ‘Shall I take for myself a protector other than Allah, the Originator of the heavens and the earth, and He feeds and is not fed?’ Say, ‘I am instructed to be the first of those who submit. And do not be among the idolaters.’ Say, ‘I fear, if I defy my Lord, the punishment of a tremendous Day’.” (6:14 – 15)
Say, “I am only a human being like you, being inspired that your Ilah (God) is One Allah. Whoever hopes to meet his Lord, let him work righteousness, and never associate anyone with the worship of his Lord.” (18:110)
“And He is Allah. There is no god but He. To Him belongs all praise in this life, and in the hereafter. And His is the Decree, and to Him you will be returned.” (28:70)
“We never sent a messenger before you without inspiring him that: There is no god but I, so worship Me.” (21:25)

“And do not invoke with Allah any other god. There is no god but He. All things perish, except His existence. His is the Judgement, and to Him you will be returned. (28:88)
“Know that there is no god but Allah, and ask forgiveness for your errors, and for the believing men and believing women. Allah knows your movements, and your location.” (47:19)

But most of them do not know. Or, who answers the one in need when he prays to Him, and relieves adversity, and makes you successors on earth? Is there another god with Allah? How hardly you pay attention. Or, who guides you through the darkness of land and sea, and who sends the winds as heralds of His mercy? Is there another god with Allah? Most exalted is Allah, above what they associate. Or, who originates the creation and then repeats it, and who gives you livelihood from the sky and the earth? Is there another god with Allah? Say, ‘Produce your evidence, if you are truthful’.” (27:61 – 64)
“…. Verily Allah is Hearing and Seeing. Have you not seen how Allah merges the night into the day and merges the day into the night? That He subjected the sun and the moon, each running for a destined term? And that Allah is Aware of everything you do? That is because Allah is the Truth, and what they worship besides Him is falsehood, and because Allah is the Exalted, the Supreme.” (31:28 – 30)
Allah (SWT): The Almighty and the Sovereign
Allah (SWT), the Exalted, is the All-Powerful, the Supreme Ruler, and the Ultimate Being. He is the Master and Sustainer of His creations. He is without partners or equals. The heavens, the earth, and everything in between belong to Him. Allah (SWT) is the Independent and Supreme Authority, while all beings, willingly or unwillingly, are dependent on Him and submit to His will. He is the sole Administrator of the entire universe. No one can claim any share of His Sovereignty and Authority. Complete allegiance and obedience are owed to Him. The following verses from the Qur’an elucidate these attributes of Allah (SWT):

Allah (SWT): The Creator & Sustainer of the Universe
It is Allah (SWT) who, as the Creator and Sustainer, encompasses the entire universe. With His profound knowledge, wisdom, and unmatched power, He brought into being all entities present in the vast expanse of the heavens, the earth, and everything in between. Whether they are living beings or lifeless objects, perceptible or imperceptible, familiar or unknown, all owe their existence to Allah (SWT). He is the originator of creation and its eternal source. He grants life, bestows death, and safeguards His creations through His divine plan that is ordained for each of them. Every living creature has been meticulously fashioned by Him, and He ensures their sustenance. The entirety of His creations came into being through a sequential process spanning six stages of time. His creativity is unparalleled, as when He intends to create something, He merely commands it into existence by saying, ‘Be,’ and it instantaneously comes into being.

Allah (SWT): All-Wise, All-Hearing & All-Seeing
Almighty Allah (SWT) is Omnipotent, Omnipresent, and Omniscient, i.e., He possesses boundless power, exists everywhere, and possesses infinite knowledge. This signifies that He is absolutely wise, hears all, and sees all. His sovereignty, wisdom, attentive listening, and all-encompassing vision extend to every corner of His creations. Therefore, nothing escapes His knowledge, and nothing is beyond His control.

The Greatness of Allah (SWT)
Allah (SWT) is the Greatest, Almighty and All-Praising. He is the Supreme Lord of His creations. He has no partner and none is equal to him. He owns the heavens and the earth, as well as everything in between. The Greatness of Allah (SWT) is overwhelming and unparalleled. He is the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful. He is the Master of the Day of Judgement. He is the most severe in giving punishment. Everything in the heavens and the earth constantly extols Him. The verses about His greatness and praises are quoted below:
“And say (O Prophet), All Praises be to Allah, who has not begotten a son, nor He has a partner in His Sovereignty, nor He needs an ally because of weakness, and always glorify His Greatness with reverence” (17:111)
“Do you not see that everyone in the heavens and everyone on the earth prostrates to Allah, including the sun, and the moon, and the stars, and the mountains, and the trees, and the animals, and many of the people? But many are justly deserving of punishment. Whomever Allah humiliates, there is none to honor him. Allah does whatever He wills.” (22:18) [Ayah of Sajadah]

Allah (SWT): The Determiner of Taqdir (Fate)
“……Allah does not change the condition of a people until they change what is within themselves……” (13:11)
Taqdir (that comes from the word Qdr), according to Quranic meaning is a concept of divine destiny or predestination. It signifies the belief that everything that happens in the universe, including the actions and choices of individuals, is ultimately determined by Allah (SWT). Taqdir encompasses the idea that Allah has predetermined all events, both good and bad, and that nothing happens without Allah’s knowledge and permission. However, this does not negate the concept of free will of human being in Islam. Muslims believe that while Allah (SWT) has decreed all things, He has also given humans the ability to make choices and decisions within the framework of His divine plan.
The belief in Taqdir is a fundamental aspect of Islamic theology and is mentioned in various verses of the Quran and teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ). It provides Muslims with a sense of trust and acceptance in the unfolding of events, knowing that everything ultimately occurs in accordance with the will of Allah (SWT). Everything in the universe is working under a set program of Allah (SWT), which is called the “laws of nature.” The Master Plan of Allah (SWT) encompasses the destiny of all things. Allah (SWT) is the sole determiner of the Taqdir of all His creations. Only humans and Jinn have been given free will which they can exercise to build their fate. It is the best use or misuse of their free will that plays a vital role in determining their fate.
Humans face a lot of tests from Allah (SWT) in the form of wells and woes, comfort and adversity, poverty and prosperity, fitness and illness, and so on. If they face all these situations with patience and perseverance while keeping trust in Allah (SWT), they will certainly attain great success in this life and the hereafter. One who does wrong to satisfy one’s own desires is carrying out one’s own deed. The good is all in Allah’s hands, while evil and mischief are the inspirations of Satan and one’s own handiwork. Every soul is responsible for its own actions if done pursuing evil inspirations, as none can escape the consequences thereof.
Each and every matter of ‘Taqdir’ (fate or destiny) is under the will of Allah (SWT). If He wills, he may give success amid all adversities, and again, no power on earth can do any benefit to anyone without His support. That is, one will get much of what is predestined for one’s fate. One should have full patience on Allah’s (SWT) decision. This is the significance of Taqdir. Allah is the one Who decrees the fate, which is predetermined and inevitable. He has preordained the apportionment of good and evil. Those efforts of humans that help the changes in fate are also within the scheme of Taqdir.
It is not wise to blame one’s fate without making any effort. Humans should exert all their efforts by using the knowledge and guidance given by Allah (SWT). If they fail to follow Allah’s guidance, ignoring the wisdom and conscience bestowed upon them, then evil consequences are obvious. The following two Prophetic hadiths will help to clarify the concept of Taqdir:
Ali () related that one day the Prophet of Allah (ﷺ) was sitting with a wooden stick in his hand, scratching the ground. He raised his head and said, “There is none of you, but has his place assigned either in the fire or in paradise.” They (the Companions) inquired, ‘O Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)!’ why should we carry on doing good deeds? Shall we depend (upon Qadr) and give up work?’ Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said, “No, continue doing good deeds, for everyone will find it easy to do such deeds that will lead him towards that for which he was created,” Then he recited the verse: “As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah, fears Him, and believes in al-Husna (Kalimah), we will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness)” (92:5-7). [Sahih Muslim]
According to Thawban (), the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “Truly, a man is deprived of a provision (which was written for him) because of a sin he commits; only supplication changes destiny, and only justice can lengthen life.” (Nasai, Ibn Majah).
Verses related to Taqdir are quoted below:

Tawakkul (Trust) upon Allah (SWT)
Tawakkul is the act of entrusting all affairs to Allah (SWT) and relying on His trusteeship. It is complete reliance on Allah, or ‘trusting in Allah’s plan.’ Tawakkul further means sincerely rely on Allah (SWT) in all conditions, whether good or bad. Humans are always under trial according to Allah’s plan. He loves those who keep patience and trust in Him during adversity and show gratitude and thanks to Him during prosperity. Allah (SWT) provides sustenance for all from a source beyond one’s knowledge and imagination. He is sufficient for those who continue to put their trust in Him and make sincere efforts.
The following two Hadiths will clarify the concept of Tawakkul. Anas bin Malik () reported in a Hadith that when a Desert-Arab approached the Prophet (ﷺ), he asked, ‘Should I tie my camel and rely on Allah, or should I leave her untied and rely on Allah?’ “Tie her and then rely on Allah,” said the Prophet of Allah (ﷺ). (Tirmidhi). According to another Hadith reported by ‘Umar bin al-Khattab (), the Prophet of Allah (ﷺ) said, “If you trusted Allah with due Tawakkul, He would provide you with sustenance as He provides for the birds; they go out in the morning with empty stomachs and return in the evening with full stomachs.” (Tirmidhi and Ibn Mjah).
The Qur’anic verses on Tawakkul are cited below:
“I have placed my trust in Allah, my Lord and your Lord. There is not a creature but He holds it by the forelock. My Lord is on a straight path.” (11:56)
“And if you ask them, ‘Who created the heavens and the earth?’ they will surely say, ‘Allah’. Say (O Prophet), ‘Have you seen whom you pray other than Allah? If Allah willed any harm for me, can they help stop His harm? And if He willed a blessing for me, can they hold back His mercy?’ Say, Allah suffices for me. On Him the reliant rely.” (39:38)
“So, rely on Allah. You are upon the clear truth.” (27:79)
