Allah (SWT) upholds his exemplary role for mankind:
لَّقَدْ كَانَ لَكُمْ فِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ لِّمَن كَانَ يَرْجُو اللَّهَ وَالْيَوْمَ الْآخِرَ وَذَكَرَ اللَّهَ كَثِيرًا
“Indeed, in the Messenger of Allah, you have an excellent example for whoever has hope in Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah often.” (Surah Al–Ahzab, 33:21)
A Shining Lamp of Guidance
The Prophet (ﷺ) was assigned with such a noble mission that demanded a personality of the highest integrity—one that would serve as the ultimate example for humanity. Highlighting his mission and role Allah (SWT) says in the Qur’an:
“A witness, a bearer of glad tidings, a warner, and as one who invites to Allah by His permission, and as a lamp spreading light.” (Surah Al–Ahzab, 33:45–46)
Through his radiant character, the Prophet (ﷺ) illuminated the path to righteousness, serving as a guide for all who seek the pleasure of Allah (SWT).
The Qur’anic Affirmation of His Character and Dignity
Almighty Allah (SWT), the Creator and Sustainer of all existence, endowed His beloved servant, Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), with unparalleled virtues. As the final messenger, he was sent to humanity with the mission of guiding them to the straight path— “Siratul Mustaqeem.” The Qur’an, a comprehensive book of guidance, illuminated his way, and he implemented its teachings with unwavering commitment, becoming the perfect example of its principles. Every word spoken and every action taken by the Prophet (ﷺ) was by the command of Allah (SWT), making his life the perfect embodiment of Qur’anic teachings, and thus carried the weight of divine wisdom. His life was a testament to his role as a guide, model, and mercy for all creation.
- The Perfect Role Model (Uswah Hasanah): Muslims are commanded to emulate his life and character, as his life provides a practical demonstration of how to live according to Allah’s will. The Quran designates him as the ultimate human model:
“There has certainly been for you in the Messenger of Allah an excellent pattern [of conduct] …” (Surah Al–Ahzab, 33:21).
This mandates that his actions, sayings, and approvals (Sunnah) are the ideal standard for all believers.
The Divine Testimonial of his Exalted Character
His moral standard is highlighted as a divine quality. This elevated status and unique mission demanded that the Prophet (ﷺ) embody the highest standard of character, which Allah (SWT) Himself confirmed in the Qur’an.
- The Epitome of Moral Perfection
وَإِنَّكَ لَعَلَىٰ خُلُقٍ عَظِيمٍ
“And indeed, you are of a great moral character.” (Surah Al–Qalam, 68:4)
This verse serves as a direct, explicit divine approval of his moral and ethical conduct. He demonstrated the highest degree of virtue in every aspect of life, fulfilling the moral purpose of his Prophethood.
- Completion of Good Character: He explicitly stated his mission was to perfect human conduct:
“I have been sent to perfect good character.” (Source: Sahih Muslim). This shows that the ultimate goal of his prophetic mission was moral excellence.
- Justice and Equality: He consistently upheld justice, even against his own interests or those of his closest companions. He preached total equality, rejecting all forms of tribal or racial superiority:
“All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non–Arab, nor a non–Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also, a white has no superiority over black, nor a black has any superiority over white except by piety and good action.” (Hadith Source: Musnad Ahmad).
- Humility and Self–Control: Despite his position, he lived a simple life and practiced profound self-control. He taught that strength lay in restraint, not physical power:
“The strong is not the one who overcomes people by his strength, but the strong is the one who controls himself while in anger.” (Source: Sahih al–Bukhari, 6114).
- Kindness to Family: He demonstrated exemplary behavior toward his family, setting the standard for domestic conduct:
“The best among you are those who are best to their wives.” (Source: Sunan al–Tirmidhi, 3895).
In essence, his unique status as the best of humanity is justified by his divinely appointed role as the final prophet, the explicit testimonial of the Qur’an regarding his perfect character, and the practical demonstration of virtues like mercy, justice, humility, and kindness throughout his life.
- A Mercy to All Creation: The Prophet’s compassion extended beyond Muslim Ummah to all humanity, animals, and even the environment. The Quran states that his mission was not limited to a single nation but was a universal blessing:
وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ إِلَّا رَحْمَةً لِّلْعَالَمِينَ
“And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds” (Surah Al–Ambiya, 21:107)
This verse highlights his compassion and the beneficial nature of his teachings for all people and creation.
- His Elevated Status and Honor: The Qur’an itself attests to his exalted status and purpose. As regards his high status and honor Allah (SWT) says:
“And We raised high for you your repute.” (Surah Al–Inshirah, 94:4)
His name is glorified across the world in prayers, adhan (call to prayer), and countless blessings. Allah (SWT) and His angels also send blessings upon him:
“Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who have believed, ask Allah to confer blessings upon him and greet him with peace.” (Surah Al–Ahzab, 33:56)
- Kindness and Forgiveness: The following verse demonstrates the Prophet’s (ﷺ) leadership marked by gentleness, consultation, and reliance on Allah (SWT)
“It is by the mercy of Allah that you were gentle with them. If you had been harsh and hard-hearted, they would have disbanded from around you. So, pardon them, ask forgiveness for them, and consult them in matters. Then, when you have decided, rely upon Allah. Indeed, Allah loves those who rely upon Him.” (Surah Aal—e–Imran, 3:159)
- Concern for Humanity: His deep care for the well-–being of his followers and all mankind is a hallmark of his Prophethood:
لَقَدْ جَاءَكُمْ رَسُولٌ مِّنْ أَنفُسِكُمْ عَزِيزٌ عَلَيْهِ مَا عَنِتُّمْ حَرِيصٌ عَلَيْكُم بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ رَءُوفٌ رَّحِيمٌ
“There has certainly come to you a Messenger from among yourselves. Grievous to him is what you suffer; [he is] concerned over you and to the believers is kind and merciful.” (Surah At–Tawbah, 9:128)
Divinely Promised Rewards and Honor for him
Allah (SWT) promised the Prophet (ﷺ) the highest levels of honor, including “Maqam–e– Mahmood” (the Praiseworthy Station):
“And during a part of the night, pray Tahaj’d beyond what is obligatory upon you. Perhaps your Lord will raise you to “Maqam–e– Mahmood” (the Praiseworthy Station).” (Surah Bani– Israel, 17:79)
This station reflects his unparalleled closeness to Allah (SWT) and his unmatched status among all of creation.

The Holy Qur’an, revealed to him, serves as the ultimate Book of guidance for humanity, while Islam stands as the complete and perfect Deen for all mankind, remaining relevant and enduring until the Day of Qiyamah (Resurrection).
Khatme–e–Nabuwwat: The Seal of Prophethood:

This finality of prophethood establishes his mission as the culmination of divine guidance for humanity, valid until the Day of Judgment. Islam is the final and complete religion, encompassing all aspects of life and providing guidance for all times and places. Allah (SWT) affirmed this in the Qur’an:
“Today, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favor upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion.” (Surah Al–Maidah, 5:3)
This finality signifies the universality and timelessness of Islam as the comprehensive way of life for all humanity.

“Now has come unto you an Messenger from amongst yourselves: it grieves him much when you fell in distress: ardently anxious is he over you: to the Believers is he most kind and merciful.” (Surah At–Tawbah, 9:128)
